Join us this October for a special three-week Lunch & Learn series in partnership with Amazing Place. Designed to equip and support our congregation and community, this series will offer invaluable insights into the realities of aging, memory loss, and caregiving.

Whether you are navigating your own aging journey, supporting a loved one, or wanting to know how to better walk alongside friends facing dementia, these sessions will provide practical guidance and encouragement.

October 11: Understanding Dementia: Why Early Diagnosis Matters – Speaker: Mehrnaz Gill
Dementia is a “big umbrella” with different symptoms, types, and underlying causes. Alzheimer’s disease is one, but there are many other brain disorders. Early dementia diagnosis matters because it allows for better management and quality of life for both the individual and their care partner. Learn all the benefits of why an early diagnosis matters.

October 18: How to Help a Friend With Dementia – Speaker: Sally Davis
Seeing a dear friend experience dementia is painstakingly difficult but you can have significant impact on their wellbeing. Learn tips on creating a safe environment, effective communication and which activities may create happy, hopeful moments together for both of you.

Mehrnaz S. Gill is the Brain Health Programs Director at Amazing Place and serves as its expert educator for brain health, dementia, aging issues and clinical training. She is a certified Brain Longevity Specialist and has a Master of Science degree in Gerontology from Baylor University. For more than 30 years Mehrnaz has devoted her time both professionally and personally to causes that relate to the elderly and their well-being.  She has expertise in multidisciplinary and intergenerational education and training, including 23 years managing and developing geriatric/gerontology specific educational programs for the Huffington Center on Aging and Texas Consortium of Geriatric Education Centers at Baylor College of Medicine. Mehrnaz has served as a presenter at local and national meetings including the American Society on Aging Conference and The Governor’s Conference on Aging.

Sally S. Davis RN MSN:  Sally has been a member of the Amazing Place leadership team for the past 13 years and is currently serving as the Brain Health Programs Specialist for the organization.  As a member of the Amazing Place Speakers Bureau, she creates and delivers brain health education that focuses on strategies to improve and maintain cognitive health.  Sally is a UCLA Certified Memory Trainer and leads memory enhancement workshops for adults “north of 50.”   She received her BSN from DePauw University and her Master’s in Mental Health Nursing from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.
