Motor Skills
At West U Methodist School we feel that gross motor skills develop a child’s mental picture of himself or herself. We work on developing the child’s awareness, sense of balance, flexibility, hand-eye and foot-eye coordination, laterality and directionality in their body movements. The children are also introduced to the early concepts of why and how their bodies work and how to keep them healthy.

Music
Our music program strives to offer a love of music through musical awareness, discovery, and development of singing voice, establishment of feeling inner pulse (beat), listening skills, special awareness, and language development through rhythmic rhymes. Children will also learn musical concepts such as high-low, loud-soft, fast-slow, long-short, and up-down. They will be introduced to the instruments of the orchestra and will learn an appreciation of classical music. A development of hand-eye coordination is achieved through playing rhythm and melody instruments.

Art
Art is a very important part of our school. In addition to the process art which is done daily in our classroom, we also offer an additional art class to expose our children to the world of art. We will introduce fine art materials and techniques; we will study famous artists and work with multiple mediums. We will display the creations at our annual Art Show in the spring. We look forward to opening the wide world of art to the children.

Science
Pre-school age children have a natural sense of wonder and curiosity about the world around them. With our science program, children will be guided to actively explore ideas and discover new knowledge through hands-on science activities and experiments. Science activities are also integrated into our curriculum to help them discover how science relates to all parts of their lives.

Chapel
The Children’s Ministries of West University United Methodist Church have a deep desire to plant the seed of faith in the hearts of children. Our weekly chapel service is a continuation of our commitment to nourish these “seedlings” with love so that children have strong, deeply rooted faith in God. God’s work will be shared with your child through songs, finger-play, puppets, storytelling, and prayer.
